For over 100 years (see the History page) there has been a church building and a separate and associated school building. Both buildings have suffered from the ravages of time and in particular the church building has at least a fifty year history of dry rot and has suffered from structural decay and water pressure heave to the lower floor.
An early scheme to build a new combined church and hall on the site of the school building had to be abandoned when both buildings were listed. The only way forward has thus been to sell the school building, having obtained planning permission for its conversion into apartments, using the proceeds to help finance the repair of the church building.
If as part of our outreach we are to continue to serve the community then the church building has to provide more than just a worship area but also has to make up for some of the facilities lost by the disposal of the school
With the scheme of alterations recently completed, we believe that we shall be:-
- Better witnesses to a Living Loving God and more active in service to anyone who needs us
- More useful by providing premises which can be used by local groups etc.
- More obvious by using our refurbished premises to advertise the love of our Lord to everybody
- Investing in the future generations of Christians who will follow us just as our forebears did
- More available, not just to the fit and well but to the less fit and able
- Better able to live up to our mission statement of “All for Christ and Christ for all” We exist, by the Grace of God, to be disciples and to make disciples of Jesus Christ through faith and with love.
